A little blurb about me

I’m Becca and I’m a liberal military wife. . . yes, you read that correctly.  I swore that I would never marry a military man but here I am married to a military lifer. I love the military lifestyle and all the challenges and benefits that go along with it.

We are also on a journey to become parents. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and stage 2 endometriosis. We’ve been TTC for over 3 years and to date have had 3 unsuccessful IUIs. IVF #1 is scheduled to happen in late 2010 or early 2011. We have a great feeling about this and truly believe that one day we will be parents and we will be the best fucking parents that have ever lived. I have an awesome group of IF/TTC women here in the blog world and on Twitter. I could not do this without them.

I was born and raised in the South and love it. I am not racist, I do not wear overalls and I have all my teeth.

I voted for Obama 🙂

On some assessments they show that I am so far left that I am Socialist. The are probably right.

I cried at the end of The Motorcycle Diaries because I understood where Che Guevara was coming from.

I believe that taking care of the Earth, recycling, conservationism and treating animals humanely are my duty as a Christian.

I am a huge fan of grunge and would love nothing more than to wear plaid shirts with tank tops and jeans everyday.

I am a Christian but as of 2009, I do not celebrate Christmas and instead am embracing some of my and my husband’s Pagan ancestry. We plan to raise our children as Christian with Pagan celebrations and teachings thrown in as well.

I believe that gay folks have as much a right to marry as heterosexual folks. It’s not about God or religion. It’s about a legal commitment and affirmation of your commitment and everything that goes with it.

I believe that having a pet is a LIFELONG commitment. Not until they piss on your floor, chew up your couch, destroy your bedding or you get tired of them. It’s forever. If you can’t handle that then don’t get a pet.

I believe that good cheap red wine, a good cigar and good friends can solve most any bad mood.

    Hi Becca,

I’ve been curiously following your blog and twitter account for the past few weeks. Allow me to introduce myself- I’m working with fellow MBA student entrepreneurs in the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University) on a device that helps keep track of the fertility cycle – using body temperature, cervical secretion charting. Sort of like http://www.duofertility.com, but better.

We have all the scientific and business insight into the issue of infertility, but no actual consumer “mentor”. Would you be interested in helping us out? We only need a few minutes of your time to understand the individual user perspective. It’ll help us immensely to understand what goes on in an affected person’s life.

I wish I could offer you monetary compensation at this time. We are a self-funded student operation, unfortunately. What you’ll have is our sincere thanks and perhaps the opportunity to really impact fertility-awareness for everyone out there.

  2. Hey lady! I just wanted to say that I’m glad Amy sent me your way — reading this, we have so much in common and I can’t wait to read more about your life! I, too, believe that I am so far left that I fall into the Socialist category. And I’m pretty ok with it.

Anyways, just wanted to say hi. Love the new blog design 🙂

  3. Just found your blog and YEAH! Socialist! Haha.

🙂 Or, at least that’s what Fox News tells me I am.

    Much love.

Just found your blog and I LOVE it! I am also an extremely liberal (probably socialist) military wife. We are also currently going through infertility treatments and live in the middle of nowhere, requiring us to drive 2 hours to the closest RE’s office. Love the blog, great to find someone else married to the military who voted for Obama:)

  5. I just found your blog and I too am liberal and STRONGLY support our military. My husband and I are on cycle 5, year 3 of TTC and I just wanted to say hello!

  6. Hi Becca! I just came across your Blog and I love it. I totally agree with all your points here. The Military needs all kinds of people, not just Fox news-watching, evangelical conservatives. Keep it up!

Hi Becca..I am a male….since most of ur readers are female, I figure I better mention that. I am in the military and recently married to an AAFES manager. She is deployed for a year as well. This is a switch because I am usually the one who is deployed…. Anyway keep up the good work, let me know if me or my wife can help in anyway…She isgood at getting through the bull of AAFES!!

  8. Mandee from Colorado Springs

Hi there, I am avid follower of ‘Burn My Biscuits’ and she blogged about you, her beloved friend. I recently just moved to Colorado Springs in March, my husband deployed 2 weeks ago – still adjusting. Sniffle…

I love Old Colorado City, Garden of the Gods walks, and I actually found a lake with a beach here — I’m currently living in downtown Colorado Springs. I partake in bloody marys (spicy til I’m sweating – Phantom Canyon rocks em’), dance parties with my cat, and finding the latest workout equipment that will magically make me skinny!

If you want to chat or meet up, email me! Trying to stay busy for this year… :/

    Best wishes,

BFF Entertainment and the American Freedom Foundation (AFF) are partnering to connect America with our military worldwide through a unique charitable program. BFF has developed a “One 4 You, One 4 Me” pair of bracelets that creates a bond of awareness and appreciation for our “Best Armed Forces Friends.” Using social networking, celebrity and entertainment portals, BFF Entertainment is connecting the youth of America with our armed forces. The concept is simple: buy a bracelet, register it online, and connect to a member of the armed forces who will receive a matching bracelet. Celebrate their commitment to hard work, and raise money for charities supporting their efforts through the American Freedom Foundation; 25% of all sales will be donated to the Foundation. Help us spread the awareness!! For further information and about the bracelets and more go to http://www.bff.tv or check us out on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/bfftv

Thank you for reaffirming that I am not alone. I am almost 40 yrs. old and have only had 10 months of my life where I was not attached to the military in some way (military brat, spouse, active duty member myself, etc…). My husband has served for 22 years and is still in and deployed at this time. We are both extremely liberal but we apparently must appear conservative because we don’t fit the stereotypical appearance of a “liberal”. 🙂 Although the constant assumption that I am going to view something conservatively drives me nuts!!!!! As time goes on I find myself aggressively “coming out of the closet” to expose that I am liberal and open minded. We are currently living in the south and I think that my Obama T’s while mowing the yard, my COEXIST car sticker, etc. is maybe clueing people in that I do not accept prejudice and do not find negative comments about others due to race, religion, etc. as humorous. Luckily for me I do seem to have great neighbors that have seemed to accept me as their token liberal friend. Hee Hee! Anyway, I truly was feeling alone out there when it came to my views and finally googled “liberal army wife.” Wow, wish I had done that earlier. We have two great girls who are also being raised to celebrate all religions. They were baptised Catholic but also celebrate Mother Nature and some of the pagan based solstice/equinox activities. (For their safety though against being made fun of we do not call them “pagan” activities or “wicca” but just love of nature, sad, huh?) They love their family members which consist of Jews, Buddhist, Atheists, Gays, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. If you know of any fellow liberal army spouses in the Savannah area let me know. Craving conversation and coffee!

  12. Go liberal military wife! I’m a liberal too and can’t relate to my republican friends (although I love them to death).

I hope I hope to hear good news that you get pregnant.
